Well, we all made it through another week of crazy weather! We again had a tornado touchdown, this time in the Southpointe neighborhood in Fort Myers - I hope you are your familes are all safe. The Arbor Day Foundation has partnered with the Florida Forest Service and is offering free trees to Florida homeowners at no cost as part of the Energry-Savings Tree program. The USDA Forest Service has made this program possible. Sanibel residents should be proud to be named on of the 2015 Tree City USA towns! Wednesday, Jan 20th: Biking the Refuge Tour - FREE! Fun for all ages, meet at the flag pole at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge by 10am with your bicycle. Join a naturalist and tour Wildlife Drive and Indigo Trail loop.
Saturday, Jan 23rd: Fun Fest Car Show & Auction - 12pm - 4pm at the Sanibel Community House at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
Another great nature preseve you sure be sure to check out is Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. The boardwalk takes you through the 3400 acre wetland preserve and offeres free, guided walks year-round. Also, there is a vistors center offering hands-on displays. CLICK HERE for more details.
Looking ahead to February - Be sure to mark your calendars for February 10th. The Sanibel Community House will be airing a new feature-length documentary profiling life in Sanibel before the Causeway was built in 1963.
